Launched in 2015 by Nature’s Sleep, the GhostBed mattress is a memory foam and latex mattress that combines the conforming nature of memory foam with the resilience and breathability of latex.

GhostBed was founded with the idea that shopping online for a mattress should be convenient and simple. With the success of the original Ghostbed mattress, the company expanded its product line to include a total of four mattress styles, bed frames, pillows, and bedding. Ghostbed offers a 20-year warranty and 101-night sleep trial for its mattresses for additional peace of mind.

The original GhostBed mattress is made of three layers of foam that relieve pressure points and support spinal alignment. The unique blend of latex and memory foam provides contouring support and sleeps cooler than the average memory foam mattress. To help you determine if this is the best mattress for you, we take a closer look at the construction, firmness, pricing, availability and more in this review.

Construction

The GhostBed is an 11-inch mattress with latex and memory foam layers. The soft fabric cover is stretchy and breathable, while also wicking away moisture for a cooler feel.

The top layer of the GhostBed mattress is synthetic Dunlop latex. This layer is aerated and the added holes improve air circulation and draw heat away from the body. The resilience of latex adds bounce to the mattress that you won’t find in traditional memory foam mattresses. The second layer is a proprietary gel foam with a larger cell structure than traditional memory foam. This design improves airflow while the gel absorbs heat for a cooler feel. The bottom layer of the GhostBed mattress is a thick foundation of high-density polyfoam. This layer promotes proper spinal alignment by adding support and firmness to the mattress. It also increases the durability of the mattress.

The GhostBed is made entirely in the United States from CertiPUR-US Certified foams. This means it is made without the use of harmful chemicals, heavy metals, or ozone depleters.

Firmness

The GhostBed mattress is only available in one firmness option and is considered medium-firm. This firmness balances comfort and support for a range of sleeping positions and body weight. The firm support base keeps the spine aligned without feeling too firm. The gel memory foam gently contours to the shape of your body. The top layer of latex contours as well, but is more responsive and resilient than memory foam. The combination of these layers prevents the feeling of sinking in or being hugged by the mattress. It also helps relieve pressure points, joint pain, and back pain. The firmness may not appeal to those who prefer softer, plush mattresses or the feeling of sinking into the mattress.

GhostBed Mattress Breakdown

In order to decide whether the GhostBed mattress is the best mattress for you, you may be wondering if it is made from quality materials and how supportive it feels. We breakdown these details and more in the following section. For a closer look at how we review each mattress, you can read more about our methodology.

Is it made from quality materials?

The GhostBed mattress is made in the United States from high-quality materials. The aerated synthetic latex is stable and resilient. The memory foam layer is infused with gel beads for a cooling and supportive feel. The high-density polyfoam base is long-lasting and increases the durability of the mattress. The foams used are CertiPUR-US certified, so you can rest assured that the mattress is made without the use of harmful chemicals or other toxins. The unique combination of premium materials results in a high-quality mattress that offers consistent support and a comfortable feel.

How long will it last?

The average mattress maintains its structural integrity and support for a lifespan of 6 to 8 years. Though the GhostBed has only been on the market for a few years, we expect it to have a longer than average lifespan. The high-density foam base makes the mattress more durable, and the top layer of latex is a high-quality material that offers resilience and support. For increased longevity, GhostBed recommends rotating the mattress from head to foot every six months. GhostBed is backed by Nature’s Sleep, which has years of experience in mattress design and construction. For added peace of mind, the GhostBed mattress is backed by a 20-year warranty.

How well does it conform to my body?

The GhostBed contours gently to the shape of your body with a combination of memory foam and latex layers. Memory foam contours to the shape of your body, evenly distributing weight and relieving pressure points. Though the second layer of gel-infused memory foam is designed to be conforming, the top layer of latex adds buoyancy and prevents the feeling of sinking into the mattress. The combination of these two layers relieves pressure points and promotes spinal alignment, without the feeling of being trapped or stuck in the mattress. The high-density bottom layer is firm for added support. The firmness also helps to facilitate movement if you change positions.

Is the edge supportive?

Edge support is an important consideration for those who frequently sit or sleep on the edge of the bed. Like many all-foam mattresses, the GhostBed mattress lacks a reinforced perimeter. While the high-density bottom layer of the mattress provides firm support edge to edge, the edge support is average at best. Those who sleep on the edge of the bed should still feel supported. However, you may notice the latex and memory foam react to pressure and sink in if you sit on the edge of the bed.

Does it sleep hot?

The GhostBed is designed to sleep cooler than traditional memory foam mattresses. The fabric cover is light and breathable, which promotes airflow throughout the mattress. It also wicks away both heat and moisture for a comfortable feel. The latex layer is aerated with small holes that draw heat away from the body while circulating air. As latex tends to retain less heat and sleeps cooler than memory foam, the latex layer is intentionally on top. The memory foam layer is infused with gel beads that is more breathable than traditional memory foam for a cooler feel.

Will it off-gas when it’s delivered?

It is common for all-foam mattresses to off-gas when they are new. This is due to the synthetic materials used, and is often amplified by the vacuum-sealed plastic packaging. However, the GhostBed has little to no noticeable off-gassing. Any initial smell is faint and should dissipate quickly in a well-ventilated room.

Will I feel my partner move during the night?

The GhostBed has good motion isolation, due to the layer of memory foam and the high-density foam base. It should be noted that latex does not absorb movement as well as memory foam, so you may feel your partner getting in or out of bed. Smaller movements like turning or changing position should not transfer from one side of the bed to the other. The GhostBed is silent when bearing weight, so you also won’t be disturbed by noise.

Who is Best Suited for a GhostBed Mattress?

Choosing a mattress that feels comfortable depends on many factors, including sleeping position, body weight, and whether or not you share the bed. It’s important to take all of these factors into consideration when deciding if the GhostBed mattress is best suited for you.

The GhostBed is designed with all sleeping positions in mind, and the medium-firmness is meant to appeal to a wide audience. For those who are average weight (130 to 230 pounds), the GhostBed provides optimal support and pressure point relief. It cushions shoulders and hips for those who sleep on their side. The conforming nature of memory foam provides lower back support for back sleepers. The medium-firm feel also provides adequate support for stomach sleepers, as it prevents your hips and stomach from sinking in too far. Lighter sleepers (those who weigh less than 130 pounds) may find the GhostBed feels too firm, especially if they consistently sleep on their side. For those who weigh more than 300 pounds, GhostBed recommends selecting a king size mattress with a matching king GhostBed foundation for optimal support.

The motion-isolating properties of memory foam make the GhostBed mattress ideal for those who share the bed with a partner. The resilience of latex adds bounce to the mattress, so it is more responsive than the average memory foam mattress. This helps to facilitate movement and is better for sex.

The GhostBed mattress is also slightly less expensive than the industry average. With seasonal promotions and discounts available, this mattress is a great option for those looking for a high-quality, durable memory foam mattress on a budget.

Warranty

The GhostBed mattress is covered by a 20-year warranty backed by Nature’s Sleep. This warranty is partially prorated. Covered defects include indentations greater than one inch that are not caused by an unsupportive foundation and physical flaws in the mattress such as cracks in the memory foam or latex. The fabric cover of the GhostBed is covered by a one-year warranty.

For the first 10 years you own the mattress, GhostBed will repair or replace the mattress if a defect is found.
