The Zenhaven mattress is produced by Saatva, which launched in 2011. Saatva produces several eco-friendly mattresses, including the innerspring Saatva mattress, the all-foam Loom & Leaf mattress, and the Zenhaven mattress.
While all of Saatva’s mattresses have an eco-friendly touch, the Zenhaven is perhaps the most eco-conscious design of all. The Zenhaven is constructed of American Talalay latex and other natural materials, including organic cotton and organic wool. The latex is sustainably harvested, and producing Talalay latex does not produce harmful byproducts.
Beyond being eco-friendly, the Zenhaven mattress offers many features that help promote a more comfortable night’s sleep. The top layer of the mattress uses a 5-zone design to provide targeted support and softness. Additionally, the Zenhaven mattress is flippable with two different firmness options. Not only can these two firmness options accommodate a wide variety of sleep styles and preferences, but they can also allow you to switch your firmness if your preferences change over time.

The Zenhaven mattress is 10 inches tall and is composed of four layers of Talalay latex. Talalay latex is a natural material whose construction process makes it more breathable and springier than Dunlop latex. Plus, Talalay latex is naturally resistant to microbes and mold.
Since the Zenhaven mattress is flippable, its four layers basically consist of two comfort layers and two support layers.
The top layer of either side of the mattress uses 1.5 inches of Talalay latex. This layer features a proprietary 5-zone design. This design uses small holes that dot the surface of the top layer. Since the holes vary in size, some areas of the mattress are softer and others firmer. This construction creates targeted support, offering more firmness where your body needs it most. The base layer of each side is composed of 3 inches of Talalay latex. This layer is designed to provide support for the top layer of the mattress.
Each side of the mattress also features a cover. The fabric cover is composed of organic cotton. Underneath the cotton, there is a layer of organic New Zealand wool. The wool layer offers moisture-wicking properties, greater airflow, and added comfort.
The Zenhaven mattress is flippable, and each side of the mattress offers a different firmness. Zenhaven refers to these firmness options as Luxury Plush and Gentle Firm.
The Luxury Plush side of the Zenhaven mattress is softer. It rates between 4 and 5 on the 10-point firmness scale, so it can be considered medium soft or medium. The Gentle Firm side rates between 7 and 8 on the firmness scale, and can be considered firm.
The Zenhaven mattress uses zoned construction of the top layer, so some areas of the top layer are firmer and others are softer. This design aims to provide ideal support and spinal alignment by allowing the right parts of your body to sink in.
The Zenhaven mattress is available in all standard sizes. The table below details the list price for each size before any discounts or special promotions.

Zenhaven Mattress Breakdown
We’ll discuss several key aspects of the Zenhaven’s construction and performance below. Read our methodology to learn about our review process.
Is it made from quality materials?
The Zenhaven mattress is constructed of Talalay latex, which is a high-quality material. Talalay latex offers a whole host of benefits. It’s all-natural, and Zenhaven’s Talalay latex is sustainably harvested. The latex in the Zenhaven mattress is Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified, which denotes that it is free of potential toxins, like formaldehyde, mercury, and lead. Latex is also naturally resistant to mold, microbes, allergens, and dust mites. Additionally, Talalay latex offers bounce, contouring, and temperature regulation.
The Zenhaven also uses organic cotton and organic New Zealand wool in its mattress cover, blending natural materials for a luxurious feel.
How long will it last?
Not only is Talalay latex a high-quality material, but it is also more durable than many materials used in other mattresses, such as memory foam. Latex mattresses usually last longer than most other mattresses; you can generally anticipate a latex mattress should last 8-10 years, but many latex mattresses last much longer than that. Given that it is composed of high-quality natural latex and is designed to last 20 years, we would expect the Zenhaven mattress to last longer than average latex mattresses. Additionally, Zenhaven offers a 20-year warranty to give you additional confidence in the mattress’s longevity.
How well does it conform to my body?
The Zenhaven mattress offers exceptional conforming and pressure relief. Latex traditionally does an exceptional job relieving pressure points. Rather than offering the traditional “hug” of memory foam, latex provides a more rounded feel.
While latex mattresses traditionally offer good conforming, the Zenhaven mattress takes this to the next level. The top layer of the Zenhaven mattress uses a 5-zone design, which offers targeted support. This allows some parts of your body to sink in more while preventing other parts of your body from sinking in too deeply. Both sides of the Zenhaven mattress offer conforming, but the Luxury Plush side may offer greater conforming due to its softer firmness.
Is the edge supportive?
Latex mattresses do not traditionally feature reinforced edges. Similarly, the Zenhaven mattress does not have reinforced edges, so you may notice compression if you sit or sleep near the perimeter of the bed. This compression could make the mattress surface feel unstable. However, the edge of the Gentle Firm side may feel slightly more supportive due to the firmness.
Does it sleep hot?
Mattresses that offer good conforming sometimes retain heat. While the Zenhaven mattress offers conforming, Talalay latex uses an open-cell structure. This structure makes Talay latex naturally breathable, so the Zenhaven mattress shouldn’t trap heat like many memory foam mattresses. Additionally, the Zenhaven’s cover uses cotton and wool, which can absorb moisture and allow cooling airflow.
Will it off-gas when it’s delivered?
The Zenhaven mattress is made of natural materials and should not emit a significant odor. However, the mattress could emit a slight rubber smell or natural smell from the use of latex and wool. The smell is not harmful, and it should dissipate quickly.
Will I feel my partner move during the night?
The Zenhaven mattress can isolate motion well, which can reduce nighttime disturbances from your partner moving. While the Zenhaven offers good motion isolation, the mattress does have some natural bounce, so it may not isolate motion as completely as some memory foam mattresses.
Who is Best Suited for a Zenhaven Mattress?
With two firmness options built into one mattress, the Zenhaven mattress should be appropriate for most sleepers. While the mattress can accommodate a variety of needs, mattress choices usually come down to personal preference. Factors like sleep position and weight may play a role in who is most likely to enjoy a particular mattress.
The Zenhaven offers unique features and benefits that may be beneficial for all sleep styles. The Zenhaven’s conforming capabilities reduce pressure points to promote a more comfortable night’s sleep for side sleepers. The Zenhaven is composed of durable materials, which may prevent mattress sagging. Since the back sleepers often prefer a stable surface that doesn’t sag, they’ll appreciate the Zenhaven mattress. The Zenhaven mattress also features a 5-zone design that provides extra support in the right areas. Since stomach sleepers may suffer from their midsections sinking in too deeply, the Zenhaven mattress’s targeted support may be able to provide the necessary support for better spinal alignment.
The two firmness options can also accommodate sleepers from different weight groups. The Luxury Plush side is a good choice for sleepers who weigh less than 130 pounds or average-weight sleepers who prefer a softer feel. The Gentle Firm side may be better for sleepers who weigh over 230 pounds and average-weight sleepers who like a firmer feel.
Since the Zenhaven mattress is flippable and features two firmness options, it may be a particularly good choice for sleepers with changing firmness preferences. If you’re unsure of your preference or if your preference changes, the Zenhaven mattress can give you the choice you need to select the best firmness for you, even if that isn’t consistent.
